Why are the reformers pushing disastrous ideas?

With the growing mound of research that shows that charter schools do no better than public schools, that performance pay for teachers does not make a difference, and that evaluating teachers on standardized test scores is an improper use of tests, why are the "reformers" pushing these things?  My guess is money.  Florida's budget this year is 72 Billion dollars, around 30 billion is for education.  Although Florida spends less on education than any other state, 30 billion is still a lot of money.  Now, imagine 30 billion times 50 states.  1.5 Trillion dollars, that's very tempting to the greedy people that already have more money than 90% of Americans.  How much is enough?  I don't know but it seems that the more you have the more you want.  It's sad that a few billionaires are willing to destroy this country, and believe me without public education America will wither and die, for profit.

It is time to wake up America, fight against the Oligarchy, before it's too late.

This is a test

A long four days

Just got home from four days in Tallahassee where I attended officer training by the Florida Education Association.  There are many changes coming to the citizens of  Florida and the FEA along with other Unions are determined to mitigate the damage.  In the next few weeks you will be seeing news about legal challenges to many of our state governments attacks on the middle class.  If you are a concerned citizen please help us in this fight.  It affects us all.

Governor suspends order to drug test state employees.

This is what you get when you elect a megalomaniac! I expect he will backtrack on many of his rash and insane decisions.  I guess he just expected his subjects to bow and scrape before him.

Surprising? Not really.

School Districts to investigate possible FCAT cheating.

With the increased emphasis on high stakes testing including basing pay and career decisions, can anyone really be surprised?

President's Bootcamp

I have been the Vice-President of the Highlands County Education Association for 3 years now and I have finally been able to attend the training for new officers.  I am here in Tallahassee for 3 days being inundated with more information than I could possibly absorb.  I hope that I can help grow our local union, as we are the only thing standing in the way of the billionaire's assault on the middle class.

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog.  In the future I will attempt to keep people informed of the political environment in Florida and the nation as it pertains to education.
